We'll keep you posted!
After reading this week’s articles about
social media and libraries, how to
get (and keep!) the attention of one’s audience has been on my mind. It seems to be an ongoing
challenge. I have very little extra time
lately, so I am very selective about how I spend that time on social media.
I looked into this a little more and found several sources. Some addressed social media in libraries, others were libraries themselves that had been recognized for their social media.
These suggestions are from the New Jersey State Library. I enjoy seeing what other libraries are doing! Taylor and Francis provide some helpful information here.
This library’s TikTok and Instagram became extremely popular, and I want to follow them myself now!
I'd heard about Milwaukee's Wednesday Adams TikTok, but had no idea that they had such an active and popular social media presence! I covered NY Public Library for our class social media stats analysis and was surprised at how low some of their numbers were, albeit each branch has its own social media accounts and this was the organization in general. Of the many good suggestions listed by NJ State Library and Taylor & Francis, the posting of basic information/social events seems like the way to go, even if you're not getting a lot of responses. Some of what we read indicated that people are busy enough in other parts of their social media world and simply don't want to interact with the library; so I'd like to think that they are at least looking. The summaries are helpful reminders, though, and I'd definitely keep them in mind if I worked at a library.
